The Life and Death of Andy Warhol by Victor Bokris is a great read about a complicated character who truly went from rags to riches with a whole lot of weirdness in between. This biography is rich in detail, and Bokris covers Warhol’s life from beginning to end without glossing over the quirks that went over the top. The book provides a lot of insight into a scene that was very much part of a changing urban landscape and paints a vivid picture of New York over three decades. This is an easy to digest primer on the post abstract expressionist America and the early days of pop art.

"Mousetrap"via Art MoCo

Lauren Bergman looks at feminine identity and American culture as she mixes iconic images of domesticity. Her female stars resemble pin-up girls, but can be found helpless in the kitchen or out of context on a winding road while images of war lurk nearby. The happy wife/mother/pin-up girl of mid-century suburbia is now but a mythical creature, yet Bergman’s post-feminist world points to the fears and uncertainties that linger. Women and children carry on despite the mushroom clouds that never really go away.

Artist: Chris Antemann - Lust and Gluttony

"Lust and Gluttony" via Art MoCo

Chris Antemann follows the tradition of creating figurative porcelain centrepieces with intimate mise-en-scènes that hint at relationships between the participants. Sometimes the tableaux verge on the naughty, but that might just be a matter of perception. Lust and Gluttony (detail above) is a large piece that portrays the Seven Deadly Sins seated around a festive table laden with sugary treats, doing what they do best. Polishing Silver does not look as dull a task as it is usually made out to be, and the Blue Ribbon is a coy three-layer bed scene. Other pieces in Antemann’s oeuvre include a teatime menage-à-trois, various sofa settings and good use of the chaise longue.

Autofiends - Luxury & Performance Automobiles

Just before Christmas last year, Autofiends convinced Ford to turn over a prototype of their upcoming Flex wagon to OG graffiti artist, SLICK. SLICK seriously dug on the car and hooked up with paint man, Danny D, renowned for his Low-rider pinstripe work and went to it. They had four days to get something together and popped out what you see in the attached photos. The Flex goes on sale in just a few weeks, so we wanted to share some new photos of SLICK and Danny D’s Graff Flex and a new short edit video by director Thomas Trail of how the job went down that was created.
